# What is Phenomenal?

Phenomenal is a sobriety programme created by and for people who don't identify with traditional recovery culture. It was developed by David Henzell - someone with professional experience in addiction therapy and extensive personal lived experience of sobriety.

## The three ideas Phenomenal is built on <a href="#h_phen_three" id="h_phen_three"></a>

**Joy** - sobriety isn't about giving something up. It's about what becomes possible - the clarity, the presence, the life that opens up when alcohol isn't pulling it down.

**Identity** - the hardest part of lasting recovery is rarely stopping drinking. It's discovering who you are without it. Phenomenal frames sobriety not as subtraction but as transformation.

**Meaning** - people don't stay sober through willpower. They stay sober because they've found something worth staying sober for. Phenomenal helps people find that anchor.
