# Physical Dependency

{% hint style="danger" %}
If you are **physically dependent** on alcohol, stopping suddenly without medical supervision can be dangerous - in some cases life-threatening. Please speak to your GP before making any changes to your drinking. If you are currently experiencing withdrawal symptoms, call 999 or go to A\&E.
{% endhint %}

## Signs that physical dependency may be present <a href="#h_pd_signs" id="h_pd_signs"></a>

Please speak to your GP before changing your drinking pattern if any of the following apply: you drink daily or close to it; you experience shaking, tremors, or sweating - particularly in the mornings or when you haven't drunk; you drink to relieve those symptoms; you feel anxious, agitated, or unwell when you haven't drunk for a period of time; you've tried to stop before and experienced physical symptoms when you did; or you have previously had withdrawal seizures.

## How to get the right support <a href="#h_pd_support" id="h_pd_support"></a>

Your GP is the first step.
